NEGATIVE Calorie Foods

Even though I love this idea … I’m a little skeptical!

Accourding to some diet experts there are foods that burn more calories in the digestion process, than the foods have themselves… is this the dieter’s mana from heaven? Here’s an example … say the food has 100 calories and it takes 110 calories to digest it … that’s a negative calorie food. Amazing!!!

It is a fact that 10% percent of your body’s caloric intake is used to process the foods you eat. So eating these negative calorie foods will give you a full feeling, especially at snack times, and you won’t gain any of the negative effects of snacking!!!

Here is a brief list of negative calorie foods. You can basically eat these items in any quantity you want during the day…r emember though, this is for the RAW version of the food, adding butter, etc, to any of these things will eliminate the negative calorie effect.

This is not a complete list, there are some other negative calorie foods, but this will give you a good starting point.

You can eat any of these foods in any quantity you want, anytime you want. Just remember, this is the plain, raw version of the food. If you add butter, sugar, salad dressing, etc. to the food it will no longer be a negative calorie food!

Vegetables

asparagus
beets
broccoli
cabbage (green)
carrots
cauliflower
celeriac (celery root)
celery
chicory
Chile peppers (hot)
cucumber
dandelion
endive
garden cress
garlic
green beans
lamb’s lettuce
lettuce
onion
papaya
radishes
spinach
turnip
zucchini

Fruits

apple
cranberries
grapefruit
lemon
mango
orange
pineapple
raspberries
strawberries
tangerine

A great snack time recipe for the negative calorie foods is a Salad Wrap. Use a lettuce leaf as your holder (instead of a tortilla or pita) and fill it with any of the negative calorie items above. Add a little salt, lemon and pepper for flavor and roll it up tight and pop a stack in your fridge. When you want a quick snack that isn’t going to put on pounds or make you feel guilty the Salad Wrap is the way to go!!!

A snack that actually burns calories… it’s pure genius

40-30-30 Diets

In the past I have followed the 40-30-30 eating plan with success … and the nearest past has been for the past few months.

The eating plan can be used to lose weight … or as a way to eat in a healthier manner and to FEEL better.

One of the biggest differences I notice on this eating plan is how I feel:

  • more energy (especially in the mid afternoon)
  • no more fatigue spells
  • wake up feeling alert and alive
  • sleep better
  • better thinking clarity
  • alertness
  • less hunger over all
  • no more cravings for salty foods or for sugar foods
  • The bottom line is I just FEEL better, I have way more energy and best of all after the first few days I haven’t had any cravings for the salt-sugar cycle. For those of you who haven’t been through it, the salt-sugar cycle is a binge cycle that can last for days or even weeks. First of all you want something salty and filled with fat such as chips, tacos, pizza … then once those cravings are satisfied you HAVE to have sugar and chocolate. Then it’s back to the salt/fat.

I’ll explain 40-30-30 more in the days to come, but the nutshell version is:

  • smaller meals (5 to 6 times a day … approximately every 3 hours)
  • a balance of carbs (40%), protein (30%) and fat (30%)
  • What this does is even out your blood sugar so that you are even through out the day. It is a drop in blood sugar that sets you up for the cravings and binges. With the 5 to 6 meals a day, your blood sugar stays even and you never get into “starvation” mode.

Now I won’t pretend that I am perfect … I do have the occasional binge, BUT the binges are smaller … 3 lumps of chocolate instead of a whole BOX of 16 hedgehogs or a whole BOX of turtles.

The 40-30-30 eating plan takes some thought and planning, but it is worth it.

It is also a great eating plan for those who have a history of diabetes in the family and are at risk for becoming diabetic … and for those who are already diabetic.

    More tomorrow!

How Many Calories Does Walking Burn Off?

Walking is one of my favorite exercises. It is easy, you can do it in ordinary clothing, you can add it into your regular schedule.

    Benefits of walking daily:

    to lose weight
lesser incidence of cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other killer diseases
    psychological well being
less stress which increases your longevity
    increases metabolism,
    strengthens muscles
    increases flexibility,
    improves respiratory function
    improves concentration and memory.

So if you’ve a regular visitor to this Blog you are probably interested in #1 … losing weight.

This is a simple formula you can use to determine how many calories are being burned according to your weight and how fast you are walking:

    3.0 miles/hour (20-minute mile): Burns .027 calories/pound/minute.
    3.5 miles/hour (17 minute mile): Burns .033 calories/pound/minute.
    4.0 miles/hour (15 minute mile): Burns .042 calories/pound/minute.
    4.5 miles/hour (13 minute mile): Burns .047 calories/pound/minute.

Here’s an example: if you weigh 200 pounds and walk at the 3 miles per hour rate (20-minute mile) for 60 minutes, you multiply 200 by .027, then multiple the result (5.4) by 60. You burn 324 calories.

Now 324 calories for an hours effort may not seem like all that much, BUT the GOOD NEWS is … that because you have increased your metabolism, you will continue to burn more calories in the hours following your walk.

AND consider walking just a bit faster. Here’s the calorie loss for the same 200 pound person walking at various rates:

3.0 per hour for 60 min = 324 calories lost
3.5 per hour for 60 min = 396 calories lost
4.0 per hour for 60 min = 504 calories lost
4.5 per hour for 60 min = 564 calories lost

    Happy walking!

    Yoga Booty Ballet

The name definitely got my attention … so I just HAD to check it out.

LOOKS LIKE AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF FUN!!!

    What is Yoga Booty Ballet?

It’s a mix of dance, yoga, and body sculpting developed by two Hollywood fitness experts, Gillian Marloth and Teigh McDonough. Since most people can’t just fly on over to Hollywood for a fitness class, they’ve recorded an number of their most popular routines.

Each of the videos is a diferent dance style that will have you jumping and hopping and movin’ and groovin’ and shedding pounds and inches.

I liked the Body Sculpting Bollywood Style. Did you see the Bollywood movie? Fun! There is also a Latin Dance and GO GO (60’s) routine as well as Body Shaping and Renew your Goddess videos. And the package comes with a few other goodies to help you maximize your dance sessions!

A few years back I tried the Tai Bo videos, but all the martial arts moves were just TOO much for me to handle. This sounds more my style.

If anyone has tried the videos, we’d all love to hear your comments.
