Here are some of the questions I regularly get about using Hypnosis for Weight Loss

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind in which you totally focus your attention. You have already experienced the feeling of hypnosis if you have had a compelling and relaxing daydream; if you find yourself in a meditative state, staring off into space; if you find yourself totally absorbed in surfing on the internet or watching TV so that you no longer notice what is going on around you.

Why is Hypnosis Effective in Assisting Dieting?

Every diet, the Zone Diet, the South Beach Diet or the Biggest Loser Diet has special rules and requirements they suggest you follow. Reputable diets are designed by doctors and nutrition experts and are usually based on scientific information. The bottom line is … IF you follow the rules, the weight comes off.

Your task is not to re-invent the diet. It is to STICK TO THE DIET by following the rules. And that’s where most of us have the BIG challenge … sticking to it over the long term.

Hypnosis is a fabulous tool that will enhance your ability to follow the rules and requirements of the diet!

What Happens During Hypnosis?

While in a hypnotic trance, your mind is more open to helpful ideas. These ideas may influence the way you think. These new ideas can help change your behavior, emotions, health, or anything the power of the mind can influence.

Hypnosis requires a very relaxed and focused state of mind … and to get into this state of mind hypnotists do what is called an induction. The induction is nothing fancy … it just allows you to relax your body and focus your mind on what it is that you want to do … i.e. stay motivated, exercise more, lose weight.

Once you are totally relaxed and in a light trance the ideas you (or the hypnotherapist) presents can flow more directly to the learning centers of your brain.

Isn’t hypnosis just for people with really bad problems?

Hypnosis has been used by the most successful atheletes (Tiger Woods), high powered business people, actors (Kevin Costner), musicians, writers, and others, all for the most positive reasons.

Hypnosis can be used to improve your skills, your health, yourappearance, and your enjoyment of life. Hypnosis can make your abilities and talent more available.

Hypnosis is also a therapeutic tool used in clinical psychology to help people with their problems and phobias.

Hypnosis can be used by ANYONE to make that which is good even better and transforms better into the extraordinary.

What if I can’t wake up from the hypnosis?

This is a myth. There is truly no such thing. Sometimes, hypnosis feels so relaxing and soothing that you may fall asleep, but even then will awaken naturally. You will come out of a trance automatically if there is any problem, emergency or if you simply do not like or want what is being suggested.

Can I learn self-hypnosis?

YES … you can learn to make your own hypnosis tapes or audio files. Here are two programs I highly recommend …

Hypnosis and Weight Loss

Any diet is only as effective as your willingness to stick to your eating plan.

We all start out with great intentions and then temptation and more temptation gets in the way.

Eating is a complex combination of the need for nutrition, pleasure, socializing, conditioning and other psychological factors, that the motivation to start and stick to a particular eating plan is very often short lived.

We are torn between conflicting motivations and the fact that we NEED to eat. Eating can bring us a sense of well-being, and at the same time have conflicts with our self-esteem, health, career, and social life.

This is where hypnosis comes in. Hypnosis can provide us with the extra help and the mental tools we need to stick to our goals.

During a hypnosis session the actions that you WANT are formed into suggestions. These ideas can be created so that they reflect the needs of your diet, including certain foods and other helpers such as exercise.

The second component of your hypnosis diet are the suggestions for maintaining your motivation. Your motivation to stick to your eating and exercise plan are the most important compontent of your diet.

THIS is a serving? You’ve GOT to be kidding!

I don’t eat cereal for breakfast; I eat it for lunch, or as a snack.

One day I was inspired to read the back of the cereal box. The section that talks about calories and portions.

Were you aware that ONE serving is only 1 ¼ cups of cereal and ¾ cup milk? Of course it depends on the kind of cereal … I have one in which the serving size is 3/4 of a cup!

I loaded up my plate. I loaded up my plate again. She didn’t. That’s why I’m a blob and she isn’t.

Why did I load up my plate a 2nd time? Habit. Next time I’m going to match spoonful for spoonful and forkful for forkful what my skinny guest eats. I am going to experience eating like a skinny person eats.

My next few hypnosis sessions will include this … “I feel TOTALLY satisfied eating smaller portions of food at each meal.”
The issue here is portion control.

Big blobs need to pay attention to portion control. MEASURE. No estimating allowed. By measuring EXACT portions we become more aware of what we are putting into our bodies.

Subliminal Power Software

Several people have asked me about the Subliminal Power Software link on my website so I thought I’d tell you a bit more about it.

If you are in front of a computer for more than an hour a day you will FOR SURE want to check this out.

Subliminal Power is a small program that will run on any Windows computer. It automatically loads when you start your computer and then it operates in the background. It flashes 100-millisecond messages while you work on your computer. Just a Coincidence!

Are the tapes working or is this just a coincidence?

I sometimes get frustrated with my hypnosis clients. Are they nuts? Maybe they should be seeing a psychiatrist instead of me. They come to me with a problem. Then after 5 or 6 sessions with me they are not sure the hypnosis is making a difference … “the changes they ARE experiencing might just be a coincidence.”

Go figure. They’ve had the problem for 10 years and now it is a coincidence that their problem is being resolved!

Go figure. After two weeks of listening to the tapes that I am wondering if my desire for more salads is just an accident.

Go figure. After two weeks of listening to my hypnosis tapes I am wondering if my urge to go for a walk is just a coincidence, after all the weather IS nice outside!

That self-sabotage thing? I wonder if it is at work again? Why I am squashing and resisting that urge to go for a walk?
