Reassuring Reasons why Hypnosis is your Friend

I got permission from Mark Tyrrell of Hypnosis Downloads to reprint his article exposing some of the myths of Hypnosis. It’s a good read … which you can follow up with some of my “weight loss” specific info on Hypnosis by clicking on the Hypnosis Category.

Reassuring Reasons why Hypnosis is your Friend

Believe the hype or think for yourself

For too long hypnosis has had a bad or ‘difficult’ press. If a person doesn’t understand something they have 3 options open to them.

1) They might be sceptical and therefore save the trouble of looking further and possibly benefiting.
2) They may conclude it is dangerous and to be avoided at all costs.
3) They may spend time discovering the truth behind the hype.

If you don’t know much about a topic it’s easy to be suspicious. Some people assume hypnosis is akin to a carnival side show, others consider it mystic mumbo jumbo or ‘mind control.’ For those who look beyond the hype the truth is far more illuminating.

The most powerful tool you possess

There are potentially huge benefits for those who use hypnosis as part of everyday life. When you understand hypnosis you start to see its potential to improve human performance in the physical, emotional and intellectual realms. For me, rumour, gossip and suspicion weren’t good enough.

I determined to learn all I could about hypnosis - I learned every fact and practised every technique under the sun. I took several training courses - some good, some terrible. I invested thousands of hours of devoted study to hypnosis and discovered just what is possible. I hypnotised friends, neighbours and work colleagues. Hypnosis greatly changed things for me on a personal level

How hypnosis helped me

I used to be shy. Thanks to hypnosis I can now talk to thousands at a time and can approach anybody calmly and confidently.

I used to have poor concentration and procrastinate; thanks to hypnosis I can instantly motivate myself.

I used to find physical work outs and exercise exhausting but because of hypnosis I am now in the best shape of my life.

Incidentally I also stopped myself blushing with hypnosis. Now if ever I have a difficult call or conversation coming up, something I may naturally feel reluctant to do (you know the kind of thing) I spontaneously self hypnotise and rehearse the upcoming situation feeling good, with myself remaining calm. In this way I habitually set my own emotional ‘blue prints’ for up coming situations. Having said that it’s naturally that some people have concerns or half digested ‘hand me down’ ideas regarding hypnosis. A common one is the one about ‘mind control.’ However what does this really mean?

Why you are more in control of yourself in hypnosis

If someone expresses concerns about being ‘controlled’ in hypnosis what they mean is they don’t want to be like a robot, an automaton that is forced to obey the every whim of the hypnotist. We can’t help but influence others but we don’t control them. To understand why you need to understand hypnosis better.

So what is hypnosis like?

Hypnosis isn’t like a coma. It’s not unconsciousness - more a subtle shifting of consciousness. In hypnosis, you can still think logically but you also have access to the ’software’ of your mind so that you can update instinctive emotional and physical responses. In fact the hypnotised subject (not the hypnotist) calls the shots. When I hypnotise someone I need to go at their speed and respond to their needs and expectations. Hypnosis will give you more control in your own life because of what it enables you to do.

How can I be so sure?

Because over the decades I’ve seen all kinds of people, all ages and from all backgrounds turn their lives around thanks to hypnosis. When you use hypnosis for yourself it improves confidence in all kinds of ways. When you use it to change other’s lives it just blows you away. This is what I mean.

When I first hypnotised someone to feel no sensation in a painful arthritic arm it was an incredible feeling. When I first cured life long phobias quickly and comfortably I was astounded. When I stopped hardened alcoholics from drinking and even got a heroin addict off the stuff and back into mainstream life again I started to feel angry that people could just associate hypnosis with entertainment.

With the aid of hypnosis I (and many people I have trained and worked with) have helped severely depressed people feel strong and positive again. The rewards and satisfactions are hard to describe. I’m going to take a stand against ignorance and short sightedness around hypnosis and here’s why.

Why you need to reclaim hypnosis for yourself

Hypnosis is your birthright. It’s nature’s optimum learning tool. In fact to learn and perform anything well you need to experience a natural focussing of attention, a natural kind of hypnosis. To be successful hypnosis needs to be your companion and friend.

Successful people use it naturally all the time because hypnosis is natural. It’s the way we learn new responses. Unlike medications its side effects are purely positive - one expectant mother I worked with to feel relaxed during child birth later reported that she was also more relaxed when flying!

Hypnosis is easy to learn and every body can benefit. Hypnosis is a safe environment to ‘try out’ new behaviours and emotional patterns before you experience them for real. So the young man can ask a woman out for a date many times in calm relaxed hypnosis so that by the time he does it for real it feels real and natural and relaxed. Sports people who use hypnosis learn new quicker and more accurately. So hypnosis gives you more control of yourself and your life, it’s natural and gives you instant benefits and it’s a way of ‘trying on’ and establishing new patterns of emotional response and behaviour, Hypnosis enables you to develop yourself as a human being.

Doctor’s Office Visit Reveals Great News!

I don’t have a weight scale in my home because I become compulsive about weighing myself and I get very discouraged when I don’t see immediate results.

I’ve discovered that results happen over time.

Since I’ve come home from two and a half months in Mexico, where I ate a diet heavy on fruits, vegetables, and beans … and where I walked a lot in the cobblestone streets, I’ve noticed that my clothing fits a LOT differently. My pants are virtually falling off.

Though I knew I had lost weight, I didn’t know how much until I went to my Doctor for a regular checkup.

The good news is …. TA DA … I’ve lost another 20 pounds. No wonder the cloths are falling off!

The even better news is that my blood sugar readings are normal AND my cholesterol is also in the normal range. Ditto with my blood pressure.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy and pleased.

At times it seems to be taking forever … but I keep on taking the steps (hypnosis, EFT, law of attraction). Then … it seems like a mini miracle happens when I notice body changes and find out I have indeed lost weight.

I am looking, better and feeling better. I am healthier. This is a far cry from the days when I almost up-chucked every time I had to tie up my runners. This is a far cry from the days I could barely get my panty hose on. I LIKE THIS. I am encouraged to stay the course and continue with my weight loss journey.I have another 40 or so pounds to go … but now it seems more achievable than ever before!

My message to you is to STICK WITH IT. You will have set-backs. You will have discouragement. It may seem like it is taking forever. But if you just keep on going back to the basics … it will happen.

    Thin From Within

    Thin from Within

As you know, I am passionate about finding resources that help you (and me) get what we want from our lives. If that means more abundance … fabulous, if that means less weight … that’s what I want for you too!

That is why I am thrilled to tell you about Thin from Within!

Marna Goldstein and Amy Grant have put together an innovative program on losing weight based on the Law of Attraction. The concept is that being thin comes from within - it’s entirely a mental shift. And as you know I happen to believe that the metal shift is THE most important shift we can make leading to slim, trim and maybe even downright skinny!

So far I have listened to the first weeks’ audio and can’t wait to listen to the rest. There is a whole session on emotional eating and eating in alignment to YOUR body’s innate wisdom that I am anxious to get to.

I firmly believe that when you want to acomplish something that someone else has done … go to the expert and ask them what they do … watch them and MODEL what they do. The two gals who developed this program, have done exactly that!!

You can read some testimonials of people who have been through the whole program here:

Check it out. I’d love to hear your success story! AND I’ll keep you updated on what I think about the rest of the audio course!!

    Have a GREAT DAY!
    Melanie

    A JOYFUL Day

I have some friends whose entire lives revolve around losing weight. They angst about it, they talk about it incessantly and they are constantly in struggle about it.

I personally decided that though I want to (need to) lose weight, I’d prefer to go about it using things like hypnosis, EFT and the Sedona Method. Yes I also use some of the tools and products available. Some help more than others. And yes, I’ve tried some of those free samples!!

One of the things I DON’T do is weight myself daily, weekly or even monthly! I find it discouraging … I find that the process has me focus on the weight I haven’t lost vs what I need to do which is focus on becoming slimmer, trimmer, fitter, and stronger.

So the other day … I was in my closet getting rid of some REALLY old cloths. I held up this pair of pants and said to myself “this has got to go, I’ll never fit into it again in this life time!” So the first thing I did was catch my NEGATIVE thought and turn it around to … “yes, someday soon I am going to be able to wear this size again!

Then, something prompted me to try on the pants.

    EUREKA!!!!
    EUREKA!!!!
    EUREKA!!!!

They fit … and not just fit, but FIT PERFECTLY!

My “someday soon” was WAY SOONER than I had ever thought.

I knew my clothing was becoming baggier and that meant I had shed either pounds or blobby fat, but this was my first acknowledgement of how much I had actually slimmed down.

So I am allowing myself to keep these old pants (because they fit wonderfully) and get rid of one of my pairs of now TOO baggy pants.

Do you see this BIG GRIN on my face???

    Melanie

PS. I’d love to hear about YOUR stories of triumphs, miniscule, small and large!

I Ate Too Much Turkey, Now What?

    Is this you?

Despite all my good intentions, I ate too much over Thanksgiving. I ate WAY too much turkey, stuffing, potatoes, yam casserole (with marshmallows on the top), cranberry sauce, pie and cookies, goodies, dip. I bet I gained 100 pounds! What Now?

Not to sound preachy, but first of all be thankful that you COULD overeat. With all the disasters in the world, there are people who would love to have your problem.

Next … just get back on track. Now. Today. Don’t wait till Wednesday and another 200 pounds! START NOW. Even if it is the middle of the day and you’ve already eaten too much.

Get right back into healthy eating by CHOOSING to eat smaller portions. Or CHOOSE to put only three things on your plate.

For breakfast maybe have a turkey sandwich, without the mayo … try a BIT of cranberry sauce. At lunch, have a veggie salad made from all your leftover vegetables … and mix in some fresh lettuce or veggies. For dinner have a small portion of turkey with only two vegetables. Skip the rest. Feeling deprived? OK have ONE SMALL goodie.

Today … get the gang off the couch and go for a group walk or adventure. Drive to a local park or go sight seeing with your visitors. Move your body.

And finally, don’t beat yourself up about over indulging. We all do it from time to time … your goal could be to have the “times” become further and further apart. You’ve got to start trusting yourself. “YES, I may over-indulge from time to time, and yes I CAN stop. YES I CAN get back on my healthy eating plan! NOW!!

    Surviving Thanksgiving

    Turkey Dinner

If you live in Canada you are probably celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend. The challenge of the weekend is to have fun, enjoy your friends and relatives and get through the weekend without gaining 300 pounds!

You can promise yourself to “be good” and forgo all the goodies or you can be realistic and let yourself indulge A BIT knowing that you will go back to your regular eating plan after the weekend is over. That’s what ALL my skinny mini friends do … AND modeling what slim, trim people do to stay that way is a great way for us BLOBS to get that way.

Becoming slimmer becomes a horrible “chore” if you don’t give yourself a break now and then. And what normally happens is that eventually you go on a binge and stay on the binge … until the next time you decide to lose weight.

If we look at becoming slimmer and healthier as a long-term activity that includes more activity and a healthier eating plan, we are more likely to stay for the long term. If we look at losing weight as a punishment for past transgressions, and we deny ourselves the “holidays” of life, then we are doomed for failure.

I have been following the 40-30-30 eating plan, where one balances carbs (40%) with protein (30%) and fat (30%) at EVERY meal. The best version of the plan is to keep your blood sugars even throughout the day by eating 5 to 6 smaller meals spread out throughout your waking hours.

So given than Thanksgiving Dinner is usually one big blow out … here is my plan: I’ll start the day as usual, with my small meals … I’m going to a friends for dinner. I know that she usually has before dinner appetizers. So when I get there, one of my small meals will be a few appetizers … and I will try to stick to my 40-30-30 balance by at least incorporating some protein and carbs (the easy part). I will have a FEW appetizers, and then I’ll STOP.

At dinner I will model my skinny minny friend and will load up my plate with the same serving sizes she uses. (Well, maybe a bit more since I am twice her size!)

She usually serves dessert later in the evening. That is perfect for me. I can forgo the dessert and raid her refrigerator for leftovers of the appetizers. I have found it easier and easier to forgo dessert since I have been on the 40-30-30 plan, not because it is forbidden, but because I find myself wanting sweets less and less (this is great news to me).

So what can YOU do? Plan a strategy like the one I have outlined above. Don’t plan on depriving yourself, but do plan on what you will have, and when you will stop. If you don’t have a plan it is far too easy to keep on telling yourself “just one more.”

If you are celebrating Thanksgiving … have a FABULOUS WEEKEND. Drive safely and as Wayne Dwyer would say “treat your relatives KINDLY.” I’m going to add to that with … “Treat YOURSELF kindly!
