Rewards For Your Activities

Today, I signed up for the PRESIDENTS CHALLENGE.

https://www.presidentschallenge.org/index.aspx

Yes, I am talking about the US President … it looks like anyone can get involved in this program no matter what country you live in or what age you have acquired.

This group has been around for years as part of the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. One of the initiatives is to get us ordinary folks into fitness and to REWARD us for doing this.

How does it work?

Choose which program you want. Each program (and medal) has a points requirement. For example if you want to get a bronze medal, you have to accumulate 20,000 points.

Register online … it’s FREE. And then log in daily (hopefully) to register your activity. There are dozens of activites you can choose from including walking, biking, rowing, and running. When you log your activty and the time you spent doing it, the calculator automatically figures out how many points you’ve earned. Presumably it takes your age and weight into account. COOL!

When you reach the points requirement you can send for a certificate, ribbon and/or medal. The cost is quite surprizingly low. For example you can order a three pack (certificate, ribbon and medal) for only $8.00 US or you can just order a certificate (signed by the current president) for 50 cents!

I read an article a few years back about people who have collected certificates with the signatures of four and more presidents! Neat goal.

There are several programs to choose from:

You can earn the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) by performing regular activity beyond your daily activity goal of (30 minutes a day for adults/60 minutes a day for youths under 18) at least 5 days per week, for a total of 6 weeks. As and alternative you can count your daily activity steps using a pedometer.

Presidential Champions. If you’re already active and want a new challenge, this program is for you.

You’ll get a personal activity log to help track your progress along the way. There’s even a special option for performance athletes and others who train at more advanced levels.Your goal is to see how many points you can earn by being active. You’ll earn points for every activity you log. Points are based on the amount of energy each activity burns. So the more active you are, the more points you’ll get.The first goal to aim for is a Bronze award. Then you can keep going for a Silver or Gold.

I am very goal driven and LOVE the idea of accumulating points and earning some kind of acknowledgement at the end. Just a kid at heart … loved getting those gold stars in school. Sitll do!!

Let me know if you are going to join me. Company is always nice!!

Melanie
